Valeries Story...
I am so grateful to the Sheepfold and all the generosity of the donors and the volunteers. You have been so good to me, and my family and this past Christmas was the best that we have ever had.
This was the first Christmas all my children were truly happy. Watching them open their gifts and the pure excitement, which is hard to get with teenagers; but the pure joy in their eyes warmed my heart. They were so happy with the presents they received. As they were opening them, I had to hold back tears because I had always tried to do my best at Christmas, but it was never good enough. Before, my children would try not to hurt my feelings and fake excitement, like they liked my gifts. I knew they were lying to me, but they understood it was hard for me to get them exactly what they wanted.
Before coming to Sheepfold, I was a single mom of four in an 11-year abusive relationship During that time, I tried my best, but with my ex controlling my money, my time and my choices it was hard to buy gifts for the 4 kids. Then for the past 2 years I was separated from my 2 older kids, because of him, which was difficult for me.
Now that is no longer the case. Since I came to Sheepfold and went through their program, I have learned I am enough. I can be myself and my children will love me no matter what. I don't have to earn their love. I have carried that with me and stayed consistent. I am doing the work and healing, gotten my kids back and have my own place. I know that God guided me to the Sheepfold and led me back to Him. Now I have an amazing relationship with my Heavenly Father. I have put my trust in God and am never looking back.
