Amanda’s Story...

The Sheepfold has meant so much to me in so many ways. A light in all the darkness. You opened a door when I thought there was no way out. And through that open door, you graciously provided, so many more opportunities have opened, that I am finally able to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

But most of all, I am forever thankful for my stronger relationship with God, from all the lifelong tools you have shown me to be able to grow closer to Him! Praise God for all of you in this life-changing and inspiring ministry! I do not know where I would have been without all your guidance. Beyond grateful — He led me here. You have all changed my life for the better. God is good.

My sincerest gratitude and love,

Amanda, Sheepfold Mom

We Celebrate Birthdays!

One of my favorite opportunities as a House Manager is getting to throw a party for a mom or child in the home. Each resident and child are special, so the day of their birth is something to celebrate! I am no decorator but making the dining room festive and celebratory is a fun challenge. Whoever’s birthday it is gets to pick a special birthday meal and dessert for that night’s dinner.

Every time, I am reminded of God’s goodness and the generosity of donors-Birthday boxes are often donated along with items that we use throughout the year for gifts, it is only because of these two reasons that we can do this.

For many moms and children, this is the only real party they have had. Often, our moms’ birthdays go unacknowledged by their loved ones. However, in our homes, no birthday is forgotten and I am reminded of the gift it is to be able to bless others.

Recently, I had a new mom to the shelter mention her disappointment that her family never contacted her to wish her happy birthday. She was clearly dejected. That night, all the residents pitched in to decorate for her, going beautifully over the top with streamers, confetti, and a birthday banner. Seeing this mom’s face light up as she came into the room and saw everything, including the meal she requested, was a heartwarming experience.

Each birthday is a chance to shower a resident with love and a bonding experience for the house and I am so lucky to be a part of it!
